From June 13-Aug 2 earn $1850 cash PLUS $1175 towards college = $3025 in 8 weeks!!
Energy Express is an 8-week AmeriCorps summer reading program promoting the school success of West Virginia children living in rural and low-income communities. Currently, Energy Express is recruiting 500 AmeriCorps members to serve as mentors and community coordinators for Summer 2013 in some 80 sites throughout West Virginia. AmeriCorps members serving as either mentors or community coordinators must be available to continuously serve from June 13 through Aug. 2, 2013 and be at least 18 years of age by June 13, 2013. Mentors must also be a college-bound high school senior, a current college student, or a recent college graduate with no full-time employment.
Mentors make learning fun for small groups of school-age children by creating a safe, enriching environment focused on reading, writing, art and drama. Community coordinators connect parents and community members to the Energy Express site by recruiting, training and supervising community and teen volunteers who help with various site activities. In return for their 300 hours of service, Energy Express AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $1,850 and an educational award of $1,175 valid for up to seven years to pay for college tuition or loans. Applications are now available online at www.energyexpress.wvu.edu . The selection process will begin March 1, 2013. Applications will be available November 1, 2012 and will be accepted until all positions are filled.

This program is funded, in part, by grants from the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts and Volunteer West Virginia, the State’s Commission for National and Community Service. Volunteer West Virginia encourages West Virginians of all ages and abilities to be involved in service to their communities.

The Field Representative monitors and updates the Congressman and District Director on district and local issues. This position acts as a liaison to both constituents and federal, district, and local agencies for the Congressman and answers casework correspondence and verbal communications with constituents.

o Acts as the representative for the Congressman within their area of responsibility including answering casework correspondence, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies.
o Informs the Congressman and the District Director of all happenings in their assigned issue areas and region by screening district media sources and interacting with constituents.
o Handles casework assignments within their issue area.
o Acts as a liaison to local, state and federal officials and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Congressman.
o Assesses casework for problems requiring legislative action and makes recommendations to the District Director and Chief of Staff.
o Assists with recommending and scheduling district meetings for the Congressman with constituents.
o Trains and supervises interns to handle office matters such as logging incoming and outgoing correspondence, handling visitors, telephone calls, and computer operations.
o Logs in all incoming and outgoing mail and incoming telephone calls relating to casework.
o Prepares weekly reports for the District Director and Chief of Staff on pending cases and district activities in their assigned issue areas and region.
o Continually screens active cases and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner.
o Maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to the office.
